Marchetti Wines are made in the tradition of the Old World, without the
use of chemicals or preservatives. A process of natural fermentation is
used, and the flavors are purely from the grapes themselves and the oak
barrels in which the wine is made and aged.
Marchetti Wines are free-run, hand crafted and unfiltered. The flavors vary
according to the varietal and year, but are always full bodied “Big Reds.”
This method of natural fermentation has been passed through five
generations of the winemaker’s family, and the label reflects that
history. The sketch of the gentleman with the moustache is taken
from a photo of the winemaker’s maternal grandfather, Joseph,
who traveled from his native Rome, Italy, in pursuit of Maria, the
woman who would be his wife. The monument in the sketch is
part of the seawall in the Bay of Messina, Sicily, the home of the
winemaker’s father. The winemaker grew up in Washington
State observing and learning the Old World method of wine
making from these two men and from an uncle from Venice.
After more than 30 years, these specialty wines are now
available to the public. Due to lack of preservatives, Marchetti
Wines are best consumed at a single sitting. In the Italian
tradition, these wines are best with food. Italians always have
wine with food, and always have food with wine! Red wine
should be served at room temperature. Any sediment found in
the bottle is a signature of these unfiltered, classically made
wines.
